I read this amusing news story in "The Hindu" dated today.
Web site records 9 lakh hits in six hours.
Sachin Tendulkar came to Kukke Subramanya temple in Karnataka, India to offer his prayers.
This made big headlines in the media (dailies and television channels) all over India and across the world where Tendulkar's every move is big news.
Ok, what this has to with a web site crashing?
Netizens all over the world started searching the web site of the temple in news.
When searched Google has directed the visitors to http://kukkesubramanya.com, a web site developed and maintained by Mr.Raghavendra Sastri, corporate president of Getit Yellow Pages, the top selling yellow pages in India.
The website which usually attracts 1000 visitors in a day, it recorded 9 lakh visitors between 6 pm on Sunday to 10 am on Monday. The web site crashed by 1.30 pm on Monday.
The latest news is the server is now upgraded to take in 5 lakh visitors at a time.
