Do you know Binaural beats?

My sincere gratitude to Mr.Bradley Thompson for his fantastic information on binaural beats and how it is effective in activating alpha brain cells.

As per wikipedia Binaural Beats ( for both ears) are auditory processing artifacts, that is apparent sounds, the perception of which arises in the brain independent of physical stimuli. This effect was discovered in 1839 by Heinrich Wilhelm Dove.

Binaural beats may influence the brain in more subtle ways through the entrainment of brainwaves and can be used to produce relaxation and other health benefits.

Binaural Beats use specially generated sounds in different frequencies to relax and alter our brain waves bringing about different states of mind such as happiness, creativity, mental calmness.

The scientific community has been aware that certain frequencies are associated wth certain states of mind. For example, the alpha frequency of 8 to 12Hz is present when individuals are in the "zone", in "superlearning", positive-thinking modes. This frequency can be verified through an electroencephalograph (EEG) reading, and can usually only be obtained through meditation.

So, why don't we just LISTEN to that frequency in an attempt to adopt that state of mind?

We could try, however the ears can only typically hear between 20 and 20,000Hz. Frequencies such as 8Hz simply don't register. But if we somehow manage to get the mind to hear those lower frequencies, we'd be able to recreate such states of mind literally on demand.

And that's just what the exact effect of listening to the Binaural Beats with earphone.

I find it very interesting and can be useful for any educational institutions, corporate houses, HRD firms and life coaches.

Please take a look at this informative table and it will certainly explain the science behind Binaural Beats.

EEG and the brain's state

EEG (Electroencephalography) technology is used to measure brain's electrical vibrations from the surface of the scalp. The resulting EEG pattern will contain frequency elements mainly below 30Hz. The frequencies are categorized into four states as follows:
StateFrequency RangeState of Mind
Delta0.5 Hz - 4 HzDeep sleep
Theta4 Hz - 8 HzDrowsiness (also first stage of sleep)
Alpha8 Hz - 14 HzRelaxed but alert
Beta14 Hz - 30 HzHighly alert and focused

I wish I have sufficient funds to buy these life changing CDs and all the products of Mr.Bradley Thompson.

Do you know Metafilter?

I know of its existence for sometime but today only found time to review it.

It is a blog contributed by people like you and me. We can register free of cost with Metafilter
and start blogging. But they advise us to hang around a bit at first to get the feel of them.

We are asked to read several blog posts, make a comment or two and then start contributing.
Sure sir, I hung around, browsed a bit by clicking through interesting tags but I am sorry to say that out of a dozen blog posts I read, none interested me to read fully.

May be I should spend more time. I have no intention of hurting anyone of course but speaking out frankly.

But their Ask MetaFilter is a questions and answers area of MetaFilter which I think I will frequent often as I too have a lot to ask about.

Do you know Lap Band Surgery?

I faintly remember having touched on this interesting topic some time back. However, I don't think I elaborated much and so I take this opportunity to do a bit of research. This information is based on a website lapbandslim that was submitted to my web directory under weight gain and loss category.

In lap band system a surgeon mounted a circular gastric band (lap band) using laproscopic techniques on the stomach, under the abdomen of patient. Lap band is similar to wristwatch, when it is mounted, it tightened the stomach and form a new small pouch or mini stomach having capacity of about 50mls. The mini stomach filled with food very fast and slowed down the passage of food in stomach from top to bottom. This may feels patient fulfill and he will eat less and resulted loses weight.

Features:

*It is interesting to note that there is no question of blood and tissue exposure as there is no cutting incisions or staples.

*Lap band surgery is simple, non-risky and affordable treatment of obesity.

*The time spent in surgery is very less and patient may go for his job instantly after the surgery done.

Pixel advertising.

I thought it has lost its appeal and charm-the web advertising through buying pixel place!

Obviously some have hope on this form of advertising and the system still does exist but definitely on a low profile.

When it was brought on a year ago, people though they could make millions out of selling a pixel luring the advertisers (me included) on the premise that their pixel will remain in the cyber space for ever.

Thats true, but visitors?

Here is one link I happen to visit today. It is Pittsburgh Pixels.
The web site is loaded with distracting advertisements. The pixel price is only 10 cents per pixel.

I noticed a lot of vacant space. Since the price is affordable, it is tempting for me too.

Do you know click Pyramid?

This is not about a pyramid system of earning money but the pyramid principle is applied to create traffic.

ClickPyramid.com is a free web directory for independant bloggers, small businesses, and organizations. What makes them different is their "Pyramid" system for generating web traffic, an optional feature by which your site can be listed on a list.

This is how it works:

  1. You visiting each link below in turn and collect the codes that are presented.
  2. These codes are entered into the form below, along with the website information you would like added to our database.
  3. You are then given a link to a new list, which will have your site first on the list and each one moved down one slot. The bottom site will drop off.
  4. You can then place that link in web advertisements or on your website/blog. Any users who click on it will go through a similar process to add their link, and will spread your link even further.

Theoretically, if you put your link in 5 places, and each one is visited by 5 people who also put their link in 5 places, and so on.

Your website could be viewed by almost 4,000 people for the time it takes to fill out the joining form and then place your link in 5 places! Of course, results will vary wildly based on where the link is placed, and how many people decide to visit it and post their own; still, it doesn't cost anything to try, and who knows what might happen?

If you don't want to spread your link, you don't need to do anything. You will still be listed in the directory and your link will still appear in the "Random Links" throughout this site.

It's free, it's fun, and it only takes a minute, so why not get listed today?

Just to kill the time, I was browsing through some of the questions that were answered in the 'Travel' category.

Here is the question that is answered by a person called 'Wisequeen'.

Q: Where is the best place in the world to live for standard of living, days of sunshine and beautiful beaches?

Ans: If you want sunshine beautiful beaches and a good standard of living, you could chose between Australia and the beaches of the Western Cape in South Africa. In both these places you can soak up the sun in a civilized and modern society, with restaurants and bars and modern facilities, and yet on the other hand, walk miles on wild beaches where you are not tripping over other people's towels.

The diversity of experiences offered by these two counties has been widely spoken about.
"A world in one country" is how South Africa is described. It does have some crime problems, but so do America, and UK.Where else can you be on a magnificent wine estate, and then see the sea that you will take a swim in, or surf and sail on, all within reach of the best food and places to eat it in. The days of sunshine reach over 300.

Australia has the same diversity and a very similar culture and is very geared towards tourism, as is South Africa.

It seems wisequeen is very knowledgeable because he/she has thousands of points earned for answering a wide array of questions in myriad topics.

Do you blurt?

I repeat the question: Do you blurt?

Ha,ha,ha... don't get offended please.

Come, take a look at http://blurtit.com and you will know what I am referring to.
It is a question and answer website where any question can be asked and if some one can answer, they can do so. The answerer is called a 'Blurter'.

Here is something that is interesting. When I clicked on 'about', I did not find anything written by them but one of the blurter has a question about the web site. Read below:

"Look at the list of categories in the right column on the homepage. Every question goes into a category, from Arts and Culture to Travel. Guaranteed, there is someone who is the "top blurter" for each category, because they are good with that type of information.

All the blurter accounts are free. Questions are free, and so are answers. So you won't have to pay for information.

However, some freelance writers are hired to answer questions and are paid a small amount per question to answer a large number of questions per week. How blurt it makes that money in income, we are not entirely sure. It can't be by means of advertisements, because there aren't any."

So how blurtit supports itself is a bit of a mystery to us at this present time.

Do you know reverse mortgage?

Never heard of it? So am I!

That is why I thought of sharing this with you.

A reverse mortgage (known as lifetime mortgage in the UK) is a loan available to seniors (62 and over in the US), and is used to release the home equity in the property as one lump sum or multiple payments. The home owner's obligation to repay the loan is deferred until the owner dies, the home is sold, or the owner takes refuge in to the old age care.

Seems to be a novel scheme to me, but unfortunately I am not in U.K.

The difference:

In a typical mortgage the home owner makes a monthly amortized payment to the lender; after each payment the equity increases within their property, and typically after 30 years the mortgage is paid in full and the property is released from the lender.

In a reverse mortgage, the home owner makes no payments and all interest is added to the lien on the property. If the owner receives monthly payments, then the debt on the property increases each month.

If a property has increased in value after a reverse mortgage is taken out, it is possible to acquire a second (or third) reverse mortgage over the increased equity in the home. But in certain countries (i.e. US), a reverse mortgage must be the first and only mortgage on the property.

Who were Gladiators?

By 'Gladiators', I am not referring to the movie but to the ancient Roman swordsmen.
Just read this article for knowledge sake only gentleman.

Gladiators were professional fighters in ancient Rome who fought against each other, wild animals, and condemned criminals, sometimes to the death, for the entertainment of spectators. These fights took place in arenas in many cities during the Roman republic and the Roman Empire.

The gladiatorial games were originally established by the Etruscans, but were later adopted by the Romans as a means of entertainment. The Etruscans believed that when an important man died, his spirit needed a blood sacrifice to survive in the after life.

What a belief!

The first recorded gladiatorial combats took place in Rome in 264 BC, at the start of the First Punic War against Carthage. Decimus Junius Brutus Scaeva staged it in honour of his dead father. It was held between three pairs of slaves, and held in the Forum Boarium. The ceremony was called a munus or “duty paid to a dead ancestor by his descendants, with the intention of keeping alive his memory” (Baker, Gladiator 10). These were held for notable people and were repeated every one to five years after the person’s death.

Public spectacles took place in amphitheatres (like the Colosseum), during the latter half of the day after the fights against animals and public executions of criminals. Initially rich private individuals organized these, often to gain political favour with the public.

The person who organized the show was called the editor, munerator, or dominus and he was honoured with the official signs of a magistrate. Later the emperors would exert a near complete monopoly on staging public entertainment which included chariot racing in the circus, hunts of wild animals, public executions, theatrical performances and gladiator fights. There was usually musical accompaniment.

Emperor Trajan organized as many as 5,000 gladiator fighting pairs. Gladiator contests could take months to complete.

Gladiators could be also the property of a wealthy individual who would hire lanistae to train them in specialized training schools. Several senators and emperors had their own favourites.

Do you know that Gladiator fights were first outlawed by Constantine I in AD 325?

The Parisians know better Christian Dior than any other people in the world.

The fashion conscious women of today are staunch loyalists of his brand of cloths and perfumes.
But originally Christian Dior was heir to a fertilizer fortune born in Granville, France in 1905.

In 1945 he designed for Marcel Boussac. Boussac, a man who'd made his fortune from fabic was interested in Diors new idea that involved using lots of layers of extravagant fabrics.

Dior's first collection, Corolle Line, premiered in 1947. He established his main fashion house in 1949; Christian Dior New York Inc.

Twelve years after his first fashion store started in 1946, he expanded his business to 15 countries and had over 2000 employees. (Source: perfumes-shop.biz)

The biggest clients were North American: Hollywood stars, New York socialites and department store buyers who bought the exclusive rights to individual designs to be made up by their own seamstresses.

Pierre Cardin:
As the most prestigious Paris couture house, Dior attracted the most talented assistants. One was Pierre Cardin, an Italian-born tailor who was Dior’s star assistant in the late 1940s before leaving to begin his own business.
